At Happy Hen Farm, we raise our Angus beef cattle using a natural version of silvopasture which includes woods for shade and grass for grazing in the sunshine. Our animals are never shipped off farm and across the country to "feed out" like traditional farms. We raise them here on our farm primarily as grass fed beef, while supplementing a small amount of high quality non-GMO, locally sourced and milled feed in accordance with the NC State Extension Agency's Pasture-Raised and Pasture-finished Beef Production Guidelines. The feed is specially formulated for the needs of our animals on our farm and looks nothing like you can get in a bag pre-milled at the feed store. This very small amount of high quality grain allows for a desirable marbling and delicious flavor that our customers while preserving the nutritional benefits of grass fed beef.
Our cattle are processed in a local Animal Welfare Approved USDA facility, where the meat is dry aged for 14 to 21 days for maximum flavor, then vacuum sealed and flash frozen to preserve the peak freshness.
