At Happy Hen Farm, we raise our chickens and turkeys on outdoors on pasture and supplement with a non-GMO, soy-free feed from a local feed mill. We generally utilize "chicken tractors" that we move daily to ensure their safety from predators, reduce their stress, allow the pasture to benefit from their natural fertilizer, as well as to provide constant fresh grass and grasshopper chasing for the birds. When they are rotated behind in the fields behind the cattle, they are wonderful manure spreaders and beneficial to our overall ecosystem.
All of our chicken and turkey is processed at an inspected USDA and Animal Welfare certified facility, where it is vacuum sealed and flash frozen.
The main chicken that we raise on our farm is the traditional broiler chicken, the Cornish Cross. If you have eaten in an American restaurant or bought chicken at the grocery store - this is the breed that you have eaten. However, when raised slower and outdoors on pasture, we think that you will find that the finished product is delicious and familiar, but with a better texture and taste than what you can find in the grocery store. Similarly, our broad breasted turkeys are the same breed as those commonly found in the stores - but, worlds away in superior taste and texture.

We also occasionally raise a few varieties of specialty broilers including Royal Broilers and Freedom Rangers. We choose these specialty broilers because they are slower growers that provide a heritage-type, gourmet flavor that chefs and home cooks both enjoy, while still providing larger portions of breast meat than our typical heritage breeds. We raise them outdoors on pasture with non-GMO, soy-free, locally milled feed. We love the taste and texture of this chicken and find it superior to anything we can get in the grocery store as it provides a mix of heritage chicken and traditional broilers.
